Recommendations? - 2006/02/07 01:42 So I join the guild Phoenix on Blackhand about a month ago. I tell them I had only been to MC once before, they said no problem, they would help me out.

Well, yesterday, I got told I wasn't performing well. I ask them for some specifics, and they avoid the topic like the plague. The only thing they did tell me is that my mana pool was too low for end-game instances. Fair enough. I have about 5600 mana unbuffed, they tell me I need 7000. So they kick me from the guild anyway because I was asking them too many questions on how I can become a better priest. Well, I still want to be a good priest for the new guild I'm in. My questions.....

Is 7k mana pool easy to get? (they knew when I joined I didn't even have the full Devout set, let alone Tier 1 or 2 gear)

Any recommendations as to what gear I can get to try to reach this? Where should I be farming?

Thanks!

Re:Recommendations? - 2006/02/07 07:13 As a respone I wil just copy/paste my post about this on our reqruitment forums. If they had no other explanaition for kicking you but "too small manapool they are very missinformed, int is worth very little compared to sspirit, mana/5 sec and +healing in the endgame.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many classes in this game have about the same preference in gear as they level through the game, the early lvl 60 instances and MC/BWL. This is not true of priests. Many priests who applies have good gear for Stratholm and similar instances, lots of Int and Sta, however there is a big lack of manaregeneration, since these stats havn't done enough for them in the game so far, and end up going oom with nothing to do in the later half of bossfights. I often find myself giving out advice on gear that should be farmed in order to be able play a successful role in the endgame, and instead of answering it vaguely lots of time ingame I'm going to make a post here.

These items are recommendations for each slot, when more than one is listed it is because they are all passable. I might have missed some items, but if you think your item is abput on par with those listed it most likely is, the list is supposed to be some guidiance, not a comprehensive study.

I have included craftable items for as many slots as possible as those are the easisest to obtain, I have also included Devout on all slots they are passable since many of the priests applying have a lot of these items already. I will not include drops from ZG since these are not obtainable for all, if you have items from there, there is a big chance they are better than the items listed, if you have doubt or questions, just /w me ingame.

Headslot:

There is not a single headpiece that stands out prior to the 40 man instances, there are many that are resonable to use. These two are examples.

Devout Crown
Mooncloth Circlet

Neck:

There are epic worlddrops that are ok to use, since i belive that these 2 blue are at least as goo I will however only list them, since they are so much easier to obtain.

Stormpike Sage's Pendant
Darkmoon Necklace

Shoulders:

The Mantle of the Timbermaw is a crafted item that you should get, there is no easily obtainable item that is better.

Mantle of the Timbermaw

Back:

The 2 listed backs are a bit different from eachother, one focuses on +healing one on manaregeneration. THey are about equal in power and it really comes down to what you prefer to use, I have both and use them in different situations. I would say that 2 have one of these 2 is a must, but I would recommend getting both.

Faded Hakkari Cloak
Hide of the Wild

Chest:

These 2 robes are both very good for the end game, I prefer the Vestments but they cost a lot to make and the difference isn't very big. They are both tons better than Devout/Mooncloth Robe for the hard encounters in the endgame.

Truefaith Vestments
Mindsurge Robe

Bracers:

This slot is the hardest to fill since there really is no really good bracers, I will list the best pre-raid questreward availible and Devout. If you can get the ZG quest bracers instead, do it.

Wyrmthalak's Shackles
Devout Bracers

Hands:

Also a slot where there are a few alternatives. I will list the easy ones.

Shadowy Laced Handwraps
Mooncloth Gloves

Waist:

First item that really stands out, from DM east, get this.

Whipvine Cord

Legs:

These are alos outstanding before ZG/MC/BWL/AQ, DM west.

Padre's Trousers

Feet:

The Boots of the Full Moon are in my opinion the better of these 2 but a bit hard to get, the difference to devout isn't all that big and since the Devout actually have more regeneration they are a good alternative.

Boots of the Full Moon
Devout Sandals

Rings:

The best manaregeneration ring outside raids and arguably one of the best rings in the game short of BWL.

Ring of Demonic Guile

Trinkets:

These trinkets are amazing. Get 2 and rarely take them of. There is close to no excuse for not having 2 of these.

Mindtap Talisman

Melee Weapons:

Weapons have the unique aspect that they are interchangable in combat, meaning that you can, if yu wich, start a fight with a staff that gives you a big bonus to your intellect and switch into something that gives you more regeneration when needed. I do this myself, but if you are only going to have 1 weapon I recommend the regen since they are best in the fights that matter the most.

The biggest reasons for the changing of weapons is the fact that you can then draw the benefits from a +22 int enchant as well as the benefits from +20 spi or +55 healing.

Argent Crusader (Int heavy)
Glowing Brightwood Staff (Int heavy)
Quel'dorai Channeling Rod (regen)
Lorespinner + Milli's Lexicon or Lei of the Lifegiver[/color](regen)

Wands:

Another easy recommandation, made even easier after the nerf to the green wands. You can change wands as well as melee weapon s in combat, so if you find a wand with much int and plan on switching melee weapons, go ahead and do it on wands as well.

Mana Channeling Wand

Fireres:

Finally, I will take the opportunity to list some of the best FR gear, simply since you will need at least a bit of fireres to not be a liability in certain encounters.

Royal Seal of Eldre'Thalas
Dragonrider Boots
Flameweave Cuffs(get a good variant) and Incendic Bracers (get both FW cuffs and Inc Bracers)
Elder Magus Pendant (Often better than the Onyxia Key)

Re:Recommendations? - 2006/02/07 17:55 Mana pool isn't the only way to have mana available in instances. You should care about spirit, +heal and mana gain on items too.

With the devout set and some decent items, you should get close to 7k unbuffed and around 300 or more spirit which is decent to start in MC.

Don't forget to get enchantments and librams as much as you can.

Also, check your talents. You probably need mental strength and maybe meditation. You can also find spirit buffs in Un'goro (cristals) or in blasted Lands (repeatable quests).
