When is a good time to use MIND CONTROL?? - 2005/04/06 00:12
So I turn 30 the other day and pick up MIND CONTROL and am thinking how cool it SHOULD be. However, I have never fount the opportunity to use it effectively!!??
I have tried on 2 occasions and about 10 seconds in it gets disconnected. Is that because I have run ouf of Mana or is it getting interrupted??
Please let me know when to use it ... I have heard some crazy stories of people taking control of NPS's and running them off cliffs, but, I have yet to do this myself.
Have to say ..... Although this is off topic that I LOVE the idea of having a HEALERS ONLY website! Kudos for coming up with the idea. I have and will sent whispers to my fellow guild mate (Healers) to direct them here as well!

Usually when mind control breaks early it's because you're getting hit. It's a channeled spell, so any damage you take will shorten the duration of the spell.
As for when to use it, I've used it in instances when fighting multiple mobs. I'll wait until one mob is almost dead, then MC it. Then I use it to attack any remaining mobs. This saves you mana by not having to cast spells to do further damage and takes an aggro mob away. Of course, this is assuming the other members in the group don't need you to heal them. 
Why when it's almost dead? Because when MC breaks it's going to aggro on you and you want to make sure it drops quickly.

Thanks! However, the times it has broken on me have been in situations where I was all alone save for the poor bastage I was controlling.
Hmmmmm .... I noticed on the Official forums there have been reports of this happening since the last patch!

Mind control is best right now when soloing. There was one quest in particualr in my mind (I'm horde) that I had to go and kill this NE druid guy, but he had two friends beside him to protect him. I kept trying and trying while I wasn't 30, got no where, asked my friends, they weren't going to travel off to ashenvale for one quest, so I just put it on hold. Once I got MC, I was able to go back, Mind control one of the gaurds, they were down, and was able to kill him and the other guard with ease.
I wouldn't suggest using it in Instances right now for a few of the following reasons. One, it simply takes away a priest that could heal, and the secondary healer might have to use all the mana to heal when normally use part of his/her mana on healing, majority on damage.
Second one is the mind control bug. There is currently a bug when using Mind control that you will get a disconnect if some sort of attack hits the person you are controling. It is not the easiest bug to test because of faction changes that happen when mind controlling. Some say if an AoE it's the person, others say a magic damage spell, others just a special ability, but I havne't done much research into it, but I would like to time permiting.
And of course, when you get into Black rock mountain, Mind control is your best friend when you can throw them into the lava if you're on a PvP server. I do it all the time, and it feels wonderfull to get them back for all the ganking, backstabbing, hamstrining, frost trap, polymorph, lay of hands that happens throught the game. Wonderfull stress relief.

I recently used Mind control my save my arse in PvP. I was taking the boat back to Booty Bay when a Horde Hunter started pelting me. I was unbuffed and unshielded, so I threw on a quick shield, feared their pet and started mind control. Ended up controlling them and made them jump off the boat.
Saved me from a quick ganking there.

Mind control really really owns when you have a 3 mob pull and one is cloth. Example is in Dire Maul there are some 3 ogre pulls where one of the 3 is a mage mob. MC this mage mob and let the 2 ogres kill it. The cloth mage has so little armor that these high damage melee mobs will usually kill it before MC breaks. This can effectivly turn the 3 mob pull into an easy 2 mob one.

well MC breaks if u sit, or do emotions while controling somone and beside that your target has a chance to break free every 5 sec so it's not neccessarily a bug tho MC is priceless in PVP, i saved life in several occasions when mage was attacked by rogue so i renew mage and MC rogue and tell mage to use nova as soon as spell break while my pain is "eatin" rogue

I used it on a named to kill his minions...turns out i didnt get a drop. Because i didnt tag him first (the minion did)  i hope they change this...

my favorite time for MC is when you are fighting a group of monsters, and one of them is a healer. BRD for instance. Let the warrior grab a little aggro, then MC the healing mob and have a ball wasting its mana to heal your party, AND keeping it from healing the enemy, AND have it nearly oom by the time the fight is over
When I'm the only healer tho, thats pretty much the only time I use it. Otherwise I would be risking lives. But I can't wait til a time I have druid or something with me, so I can MC a mage or something! Holy crap that would be cool!

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this community.
as an holy priest i have some troubles with MC because in party everyone expect me to heal em then i use it only on healer mobs (especially elite ones who heal usually more than me  )... but my party need to be prepared and to know perfectly what happens when i release... so, i mean, mc will never be used with a party you don't know well. in pvp i think MC is simply great against class with pets: you can force an hunter to kill his own pet or releasing him close to you (if you want to melee) or close to your warrior friend. Obviously do so if there are not any pit to make em fall down (useless with 40+ rogues) or water to drown em (useless with undeads or warlocks which have casted their ability to breath underwater).
