Our troublesome adversary... - 2005/05/12 18:20 ... the shaman (for ally of course)

As a priest in pvp with most classes i can usually take on and walk away with a few scratches, no problem. A rogue can be very challenging but not impossible and an undead priest.... well..... i regreat rolling a dwarf put it that way.

Ive been in quite a few fights now 1v1 and group pvp and the only class i have never been able to beat is a shaman. Every encounter ive had, every time ive stood my group against a shaman ive died with barely a scratch on him (this isnt a whine thread btw, i think they are a balanced class).

Has anybody else had this problem? Or does anybody have any tips on how to improve my chances against one?

Thanks in advance

Re:Our troublesome adversary... - 2005/05/12 22:33 To tell you the truth, Shamans were never a problem for me. It's possible I've never played against a decent shaman, but we'll see.

The major benefit against Shamans is that they can't be undead, which means no Will of the Forsaken. This of course means fear is a very valuable weapon against them. Typically, what I do against shamans is this:

1. Fear them if they get close. A shaman with a 2 handed weapon and that Windfury talent (or whatever it's called) is a scary thing. Don't let them get close.
2. Silence them, if you have it. This prevents them casting purge (for at least a few seconds) which keeps your shield up.
3. Mana burn like crazy. A shaman without mana is severely crippled. They can still do considerable damage in melee, but without mana they can't purge, heal or nuke you.
4. DoT and nuke them. If you have Mind Flay, use it repeatedly and make sure Shadow Word: Pain is on them. Chances are when they're low on mana or health they'll try to go to travel form and run away. Mind flay them to keep them in range. Also engineering items like the Net-o-matic are very useful for stopping them from escaping (or running up to you for that matter).
5. Use the environment. If all else fails, try to use the environment to your advantage. If he's even level to the mobs in the area, try to fear him into them. Or better yet, use Mind Control and have him run into a pack of mobs or jump off a cliff.

I hope some of these help!

Re:Our troublesome adversary... - 2005/05/13 21:43 Hi calmae
i always dot + dispel rank2 on them first then mindfly while they try to run to me, shield on me + mindblast so i can get a lill bonus of shadow weaving, then scream and u have almost 9 sec for mana burn, keep in mind their purge dispels buffs so u should have innerfire all the time for their melee attacks. use wands to disable their totems.once they'r out of mana it's pretty easy to finish them off and i usually keep silence up till the end when he tries to heal himself i hope this helps u out a lill.
