Re:When is a good time to use MIND CONTROL?? - 2005/05/13 01:44 Mind Control should only be used PVE-wise when a death is assured. Ie, MC a caster and let him get pounded and die by the tanks, or simply MC a mob and drop them off a cliff into lava (Blackrock Depths ftw). 750 mana to have one mob be annihilated is our most group mana-efficient spell ;-)

Re:When is a good time to use MIND CONTROL?? - 2005/06/29 06:51 I found this article on another board, but I think it's worth sharing.

Try taking a three person group of similar level to the Scarlet Monestary and see if you can rock the place like we did. And all thanks to, you got it -- mind control.

Obviously you want someone in this mini-group to be a mail or plate wearing meat shield. Let your tank handle the single mob pulls whenever possible. But in situations where 2-4 scarlets will aggro, it's time to put mind control to work!

(Throughout this instance you should be able to get by never pulling more than four mobs. If you do you're just being sloppy at pulling IMO.)

The biggest drawback to MC is you have to explain the tactic to your group almost always, and I even recommend a practice run... See, the spell baffles most groups and they try to help out in the worst way possible -- they try to join in the fight! This results in your minion being the only one left alive which is the opposite of what you want.

So explain to your groups this, first and foremost: LET THEM DUKE IT OUT. DO NOT LEAVE THE MINION WITH NOTHING TO FIGHT. The one you want to die in these battles is your minion. Also explain to everyone, tank especially, that NOTHING they can do will likely make that mind controlled mob stop aggroing you if he survives the battle. Huge waste of time. However the non-minion(s) will come off you with a single tap since you haven't done any direct damage to them!

I will bubble myself beforehand just in case the spell fails very early, but this is hardly ever the case -- with *human* humanoids especially. I pick my target for MC with care... first preference is a healer type class, next would be a mage, and lastly a melee. You'll find the caster classes let you use the mob's abilities, so if your group winds up fighting a wanderer while you're trapped in your minions head you can actually still heal them -- without wasting your OWN mana! I avoid melee targets because they are too likely to survive. Groups of three mobs are actually EASIER than groups of two because your target is more likely to die. The end result should be either eliminating or crippling the mob who was your minion and also taking a considerable chunk of life from a second target. This turns a dangerous four-mob pull into a much easier situation, all using very little of your own mana!

Once everyone's got the hang of it you and your mini-party can move through SM (and lots of other humanoid-heavy situations) like a well-oiled machine, enjoying considerably more loot and -- well let's face it. Mind control IS a lot of fun, but don't underestimate its usefulness!

One last thing... MIND CONTROL IN PVP! I haven't given this too much experimentation on large-scale raid PvP, but I HAVE found it devastating and hysterical to use when dueling HUNTERS! Just bubble (so you're not interrupted channeling), cast renew, and let the evil fun begin! You can just picture them crying as they are watching themselves wail on their own pet. I like to do this early of course, so the pet starts to attack its master. Just PRICELESS... Quote from Priest - Little Known Facts

Re:When is a good time to use MIND CONTROL?? - 2005/06/29 07:19 Mind Control has never seen a use so sexy as to open a pull in UBRS. Grab one of those big, ugly 60 elites, and let his buddies kill him. My party quite frequently cry out in utter shock as I prove that not only do I know what I'm doing, but I'm generally right, and I can *gasp* play my class! Needless to say, 14 people quickly add me to their friends lists.

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this community.

as an holy priest i have some troubles with MC because in party everyone expect me to heal em then i use it only on healer mobs (especially elite ones who heal usually more than me )... but my party need to be prepared and to know perfectly what happens when i release... so, i mean, mc will never be used with a party you don't know well. in pvp i think MC is simply great against class with pets: you can force an hunter to kill his own pet or releasing him close to you (if you want to melee) or close to your warrior friend. Obviously do so if there are not any pit to make em fall down (useless with 40+ rogues) or water to drown em (useless with undeads or warlocks which have casted their ability to breath underwater).

If I have used MC for crowd control purposes on a raid, or for healing (BRD example), i have warned them in advance that i will be doing it, then when im about to break it i tell them so, and they get in position. Meanwhile im making it jump up and down so they can find it easier, then i break it by casting a shield on myself.

Re:When is a good time to use MIND CONTROL?? - 2005/12/19 23:57 I was just reviewing this forum, and decided I had to put in my two cents. I have used MC in two ways, and both gained me esteem in the eyes of my fellow players.

MC1 - When involved in PvP (like it or not, it's gonna happen. I am on a RP server) be it Alterac Valley, or at Tarren Mill... when the same ole same ole happens... both sides face off, there are players standing across a distance from each other with the "no enter or you will get shot, casted on" space in between. There are always a few who run in and out of that area. MC them! Run them right into your own lines! Your team mates will love you.

MC2 - And by far the best! Battlegrounds - an opponent has your flag and is running across the field. You cannot stop them... to far for fear or already used. MC them! Turn them around and run right back to your pursuing team! I have run people all the way back to where our flag belongs!

A priest can do more than just heal...

Re:When is a good time to use MIND CONTROL?? - 2005/12/26 23:59 Situations where I've used Mind Control...

Blackrock Mountain - throwing the orcs off the balcony waiting for people to assemble for BWL. Fun distraction.

Blackrock Spire - getting the 82 FR buff

BWL - learn how to smelt Elementium from Master Elemental Shaper Krixix

Zul'Gurub - Be the envy of warlocks and mages as you out DPS them with Shadow Volley (from the Shadowcasters) while clearing out the area around Mar'li.

Arathi Basin - throwing players off the hill at the mill = win.
60 mage/60 priest/60 rogue

Re:When is a good time to use MIND CONTROL?? - 2006/02/21 19:45 Mostly, I use it in group intances, like BRD and scholo. In BRD, I use MC on the healer, wait for the rest of the group to kill him and then we take care of them (because they're not very tough without healer).

In Scholo, it may be fun. With some group, you can MC and kill the other parties using life drain.

I also remember a quest in the searing gorge caves where I MC the elite there. He killed the other two and we finished him (he was low life, really easy to do).

In pvp, it can be useful but it can also be dispel (and easily broken), so be careful.
